WHAT'S NEW
April 2009

"NOT CERTIFIED BUT CERTIFABLE..."

This is our new slogan, being as we finally made the transition back to offering a few loaves of all ORGANIC bread but due to government regulations cannot use the word "Organic" on our packaging.  You can now find our Farmer Bread, Baker White, Stoneground Miche, Fig Anise Panini Rolls, Sandwich Rolls and Tonasket 100% Rye Bread made with ALL ORGANIC WHEAT FLOUR.  We plan to monitor the sales of these items for the next 4-6 months and see if it is financially realistic to switch our other varieties back to all organic flour.  To all you die hard organic eaters, rejoice!

Breadfarm just had a successful opening day at the Bellingham Farmers Market.  We are excited to have this sales venue for our products and to be a part of such a great market.  I always look forward to the end of the day and bartering with fellow farmers and craftspeople to load my fridge and our walk in with local vegetables, fruits and hand-made products.  It was a tough winter for farmers but I still managed to walk away with some fresh salad greens and local turnips.  Look for us Saturdays from 10a-3p April thru November.  Our booth will be located directly behind our 2008 stand.  See you at the market.

It's official...Bluebird Grains whole grain wheat loaf had been developed and will be made daily at our shop.  Pending good sales we will look at sending this loaf to our local grocers sometime in early summer 2009.

While the ski season and bread bowl extravaganza at Mt Baker Ski Area is winding down (open Fri, Sat Sun through April or until the snow melts), business at the Breadfarm is busier than ever.  Snow Goose Produce has re-opened and has a great selection of our bread and yummy treats delivered daily to their stand near Fir Island and La Conner.  We have a few new wholesale customers, the Train Wreck in Burlington and The Market in Anacortes.

Double Scoop Industries is working on a new logo concept for our shelf stable ancillary items that we hope to unveil sometime later this spring.

NEW at OUR RETAIL SHOP

OATMEAL WALNUT BREAD (Fri, Sat, Sun) $6.50
Take our wheat dough, add a touch of rye,  toasted oat groats, walnuts and oatmeal and voila!

SOUR CHERRY LEMON BREAD (Fri, Sat, Sun) $6.50
The infamous Sour Cherry Bread continues.  After another successful spell of making this bread daily, we have decided to put it on the official roster.  This soft light wheat dough, studded with sour cherries, fresh lemon juice, zest and a touch of honey.  Mmmm...try it toasted!

Staff update:  Did you know we have the BEST staff ever working at the Breadfarm right now?
Our mixer Gregory spends his weekends traveling the NW as an ultimate frisbee maniac, Stacey just returned from a sunny Hawaiian vacation, Erik rides his bike through the tulips to come shape bread, Captain is in Mexico researching waves, sand and culture, Sarah is gearing up to make delicious Gothberg goat cheese and Caryn is building her own home.  Packer Bill shows up diligently in the evenings to pack bread and its always nice to see him after a busy day at market.
