WHAT'S NEW! ABOUT US OUR METHODS THE BREAD OTHER STUFF FINDING US ON THE GO... OUR FAVORITE LINKS A day in the life of Breadfarm |
WHAT'S NEW April 2007 Today the sun is shining, the birds are chirping and the sky is full of big billowy clouds. It's April in Skagit Valley and that means it's tulip season. Our retail shop is bustling with lots of delicious bread, and lots of bread eating tourists. Our new Occasional is the Allium Loaf. A cracked wheat dough with an assortment of local, organic roasted alliums....spring onions, leeks and shallots. It's an incredibly flavorful, savory bread that encompasses the season of Spring. Miche! This big, rounds and deliciously large (4#) loaf of bread is now available by the whole, half or quarter piece. Currant Walnut Rolls are back on Saturday's. Rosemary-Pinenut Cookies are our special treat thru mid May. Try a Chocolate Babka (available Sat & Sun) made with dark chocolate and a hint of cinnamon nestle into a light, soft, sweet dough. Yummm..... and we have croutons. We are gearing up for another season of Farmers Markets. The Bellingham Farmers Market will be opening on April 7. Be sure to stop by and pick up some early produce and a loaf of bread. The market will be open Saturday's through December from 10am-3pm. Two of our great bakers departed in March. After a year and a half learning about mixing, shaping and baking, Macon took a Chef job at the head offices for Organic Valley in Wisconsin. Jeremy was a Breadfarmer for just under a year, having come from WheatFields Bakery in Kansas. Sadly, he is off and about maybe to Thailand, Portland or the mid-West. We will miss both their references to Kansas ("you think this is hot?"), but more specifically Jeremy's movie quotations and Macon's "biga-isms". Our new staff is awesome. Jim just moved to the Chuckanut Flats from Bellingham, and is currently learning the intricacies of mixing dough. He can ride his bike to work, how cool! Alexa, a native of Bellingham, has recently returned to the area from Eugene and is proving to be a mighty fine shaper of loaves. Tara just arrived from North Carolina and soon be mastering the bake and oven details. April marks some milestones for Breadfarmers, Clark, our former delivery guru now office manager has been with us for 3 years this month. I am sure he never thought he would still be working for us, but we sure are glad to still have him and his aptness to answer any and all questions. Caryn, our lead baker, has been with us for 2 years this month. All we can say, is how grateful we are to have her around, her energy, attention to detail, efficient work habits and kind hands for the dough can't be beat. Having said that...we are hiring a PT delivery driver, accepting applications for a graveyard summertime bread packer
and seasonal bread shaper.
